One thing that all bloggers need is to be productive. It is hard to be a successful blogger if you are not also a productive blogger. In fact, blogging consistently is an important key to having a successful blog.
But let's face it; we're all busy. And sometimes we just can't seem to focus on the task at hand, including blogging.
I've found a tip that works really well for me, and it's called the Pomodoro Technique. In fact, I've used it to write 3 articles this morning already, and my day is really just getting started.
Here's how it works:
1. Set a timer for 25 minutes and write as fast as possible during that time.
What I do is I open up a blank Word document, and then start my timer that I've set for 25 minutes. As soon as the clock starts ticking, I type, as fast as I can, and attempt to get the blog post or article written before the timer goes off.
2. When the timer goes off, set another timer for 5 minutes.
Now it is time to take a break from writing. Get up away from your computer, and do something physical. It doesn't have to be anything major, and can be used to take care of something you need to do anyway, such as a bathroom break, getting another cup of coffee, or putting a load of clothes in to wash.
The main thing is to give your mind a break from blogging. Note that it's super important to set the timer for this part, too, so you don't end up taking a break that is too long.
3. Complete 3 more "Pomodoros."
Each 25 minute writing sprint is called a "Pomodoro." Complete 3 additional Pomodoros, with a 5 minute break in between each one. Remember to be very focused during each Pomodoro and to write as quickly as you can during each one.
4. Take a longer break.
After you've completed 4 Pomodoros, you are ready for a bit longer break. Set a timer for this break as well, and allow it to last 15 - 30 minutes. This is a great time to take a shower, have a lunch break, exercise, or take a nap.
Most likely by this point you already have 4 blog posts written, in only 2 hours. I recommend using the Pomodoro Technique regularly, anytime you have work that needs to be done on the computer, but if you use it even once a week, it can help you to write blog posts consistently.
