I love freewriting. I've done freewriting since I was a teenager, and it has always been one of my best ways to deal with various struggles and issues in my life, not to mention being a great way to get unstuck as a writer.
When you freewrite, you let go of any of the common burdens associated with writing such as proper spelling, punctuation and writing things that others may or may not find valuable.
You simply write, whatever comes to mind.
When I freewrite, I find it helpful to set a timer for 10 or 15 minutes, and then I start writing as fast as I can, until the timer goes off.
During that time, I do my best to not stop writing, so if I hit a place where I don't know what to write, I simply write about not knowing what to write. In fact, the only "rule" that there is when it comes to freewriting is that you don't stop writing until the timer goes off.
Some people state that freewriting should always be done with a pen and paper, but since I can type so much faster than I can write, I prefer to do my freewriting on the computer.
What I would recommend is that you experiment and see what works best for you.
Now you may be wondering why in the world you should freewrite and how it can help you be a better blogger.
Here is what I've found to be true for me, and it seems to work well for a lot of other people as well.
When you freewrite consistently, it helps to keep writer's block at bay. It removes writing anxiety, and therefore makes you more productive.
But what I like even more about freewriting is that when I freewrite, I come up with a ton of ideas for blog posts, and can often just slightly edit part of my freewriting to make it into a blog post.
Because of this, I'd encourage you to give freewriting a try in order to get to the place where you blog more consistently.
Blogging consistently is an important part of having a successful blog. But blogging consistently can be a challenge for many. Knowing that, I decided to put together the free, 5-week eCourse 5 Secrets to Developing the Blogging Habit.
